Praying for our Government

praying hands

I Timothy 2: 1-2 says, “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, in order that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”

Paul urges us to pray for those in authority as a first priority. How many times have we glossed over that part?
But what should we pray? According to Psalm 110:11, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” That wisdom is God’s wisdom, not man’s wisdom. We don’t possess that kind of wisdom–unless God gives it.

In a list of mighty men who followed King David in I Chronicles 12:32, we learn of “the sons of Issachar, men who understood the times, with knowledge of what Israel should do.” Wise men are mentioned again in Esther 1:13. King Ahasuerus was surrounded by “wise men who understood the times . . . who knew law and justice.”

Since President-elect Trump is choosing his cabinet at this time, perhaps we should pray for him to pick men (and women) who possess God’s wisdom, who understand the times with knowledge of what the U.S. should do, who know law and justice.

  1. It is True Sally, we are to pray for those in our Governments and obey their Laws unless they propagate evil and if they do we reject what they ask us to do.

Yes not one of us were Born with God’s Wisdom, we all lack it, Jesus tells us to Ask, Seek and Knock and when we Ask for God’s Wisdom and empowering we receive them with Thankfulness and don’t doubt we have.

Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get Wisdom and with all thy getting get understanding.

James 1:5-7 If any of you lack wisdom let him ask of God that giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Colossians 2:2-3 That their hearts might be comforted being knit together in Love and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God and of the Father and of Christ In whom are hid all the Treasures of Wisdom and Knowledge.

In the Hebrew Sally, the word fear has two meanings depending on how it is used, we don’t have fleshy fear of God but we do Respect and are in Awe of Him.

    Christian Love Always – Anne.
