Another Step Down the Slippery Slope

Supreme CourtFifty-one years ago the Supreme Court handed down the ruling banning directed prayer in public schools. Today our schools are a miserable failure.

Forty years ago the Supreme Court made abortion on demand the law of the land. To date, 156 million babies never had the privilege of seeing the light of day.

On June 26, 2013, that same court took another step down the slippery slope by giving the nod for same sex couples to enjoy the same benefits as hetero couples.

We are no longer a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. We are governed by appointed officials on the Supreme Court who have written law, not interpreted it. A majority of seven million voters in California have had their votes thrown in the trash by a handful of appointed officials.

Again, our government has thumbed their nose at God. Our Supreme Court has said in a loud, clear voice to Him, “We choose to go our own way. To hell with Your laws.”

This week God directed my attention to the book of Isaiah chapter 5. In this chapter, God tells Israel how he has cared for them. He says He planted them in the land as a farmer plants a choice vine and expected good grapes. They produced only worthless ones.

He goes on to say there was nothing He did not provide for this worthless vine. He lists the consequences the vine will endure:
1. He will remove the protective hedge and Israel will be consumed. It will become trampled ground. (God was true to His word. Israel was hauled off to Babylon for 70 years of captivity.)
2. The land will be laid waste; not pruned or hoed. Briars and thorns will come up.
3. He will keep the rain from falling on it (Isaiah 5:5-6).

For those who do not pay attention to the deeds of the Lord or consider the work of His hands, He promises:
1. His people will go into exile for their lack of knowledge, their honorable men will be famished.
2. The multitude will be parched with thirst.
3. The common man will be humbled.
4. The man of importance will be abased (Isaiah 5:13-15).

God goes on to say as fire consumes stubble, and dry grass collapses into the flame, their root will become like rot and their blossom blow away as dust. Why?

Because they have rejected the law of the Lord of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah 5:24-25).

Has not God planted this nation as a choice vine? Does this not stand as a warning to us in this day and age? God hasn’t changed (Malachi 3:6 and Hebrews 13:8). The things that angered Him then, anger Him now.

In case our Supreme Court hasn’t noticed, there is a higher court and He who presides there is the Judge of All the Earth. One day, each of us will stand before Him to give account after our ride down the slippery slope.
